Stainless steel is an alloy of various chemical elements, the main ones being Iron and Carbon. It is a type of steel containing at least 10.5% chromium, with a balanced chemical composition to have a high corrosion resistance (rust).
Therefore, stainless steel is different from other types of steel that react to oxygen, precisely because it contains a passive layer that has the function of protecting the steel surface, it is much more resistant to corrosive processes and more durable than the others.
